Fredericton-New Brunswick’s advocates for children and adolescents have promised a thorough review of the state’s mental health crisis care and will publish a public report by July.

Norm Bosse was tasked by Health Minister Dorothy Shepherd this week after a teenager in Fredericton committed suicide.

The 16-year-old Lexi Daken’s family went to Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton last month and said they waited eight hours in the emergency department without help.

She took her life a few days later.

Bosse said today that his first task is to review the recommendations of previous reports and find out from the government why they cannot be implemented immediately.

He says he listens to anyone who wants to be asked about this issue, in addition to believing that the government will act on his findings.

This report by The Canadian Press was first published on March 5, 2026.
